Solutions that minimize
human reliance are called hard solutions, where the
system monitors, manages and processes the work. Then
humans can do much smarter, great value-added work.
The Work Management Processor® falls into this
genre.
The
evolution of the Work Management Processor®
The evolving
Work Management Processor® technologies that drive
Paradigm II are computing equivalents of automation.
We have applied to software the
common technique of “mistake proofing”
widely used in highly automated manufacturing plants.
Mistake proofing recognizes that
if a solution has high human reliance for monotonous
and repetitive tasks, then the chances of inconsistencies,
errors and waste are very high. Such systems are called
soft solutions.
Solutions that minimize human reliance
are called hard solutions, where the system monitors,
manages and processes the work. Then humans can do
much smarter, great value-added work. The Work Management
Processor® falls into this genre.
Award winning design strategy
1. Design Objective: In our Award
winning[1] design approach in the first product, our
key objective was to develop software that had flexibility,
versatility and captured the benefits of computerization,
delivering real productivity gains.
2. Most importantly, the product
had to be easy to use and be a management system rather
than have the old standard database entry screen.
3. The outcome in 1993 was the beginnings
of Work Management Processor® technology. The
technology included:
- Notification and Retrieval Systems
- Customisable Event Management
systems
- Cross Referencing systems
- Decentralised Responsibility
and Accountability systems.
Rebuild not Upgrade: By 1998 –
1999 Paradigm Software made the decision to rebuild
its product from scratch rather than upgrading the
existing product from 16 to 32 bit. This resulted
in a superior state of the art product without legacy
issues from old Microsoft Windows technology.
Twelve Years Of Product Innovation:
Paradigm II became the second generation (32 bit)
product for the company built on Work Management Processor®
(WMP) technology. Strong sales that have continued
over 14 years to 2004, has vindicated the decision
to build a new product using the core WMP technology.
Integrating Into MS Office: With
new programming capability, integrating with MS Office
and the development of full Web functionality proved
that the decision to rebuild was returning rewards.
The key re-developments were:
- Notification and retrieval systems
were totally redesigned and improved
- Event management system was simplified
and capability and flexibility expanded
- Cross-referencing system adapted
to integrate with MS Office products
- Product interfaces simplified
- Additional technologies were
added to the original concepts
- Accurate linking from the notification
system back to the item in question
- Customisable data entry screens
and intuitive, user-friendly interfaces
